The fishermen and the women
Men and women dressed as the seafaring folk of old: the men in rolled-up trousers and shirts, the women in long skirts. They put out to sea with the village lights turned off, sounding horns and foghorns so as not to hear the siren’s song, and come back to O Torno with the Maruxaina amid fireworks.
The procession
The whole village takes part in the night procession. Neighbours, visitors, families, children… with candles and lanterns they walk down to the beach to welcome the Maruxaina and walk her up to the square.
The popular jury
In the Gran Xuízo Popular, which begins on O Torno beach and continues in the square, different characters from the village act as prosecutor, defence lawyer and judge. The verdict is the same every year, but the speeches and the debate are always a surprise.
The village associations
The festival is organised by the Town Council of Cervo with the collaboration of the local associations:
- Amigos da Maruxaina — the naming of the Maruxain@ of Honour.
- Mar de San Ciprián — the Xogos da Maruxaina on the beach.
- A Rebolaxe — they played at the Pre-Maruxaina in 2026.
- Mistura de Lieiro — the folk group that performs in the square.
- Mulleres de San Ciprián and A Anxuela, who collaborate with the festival.
The music
Street bands through the town during the day, folk groups, orchestras and a verbena at night: the music does not stop from first light until the sun rises again.
